Easiest Trick to Train Hard
You are a competitive creature by nature. Nothing pushes you harder than a goal.

Most of my progress recently can be credited to one thing.
My logbook.
I enter the gym, one thing on my mind.
In this moment I don’t care about the gains.
I don’t care about what I did last week. I don’t care about what I’m doing for the rest of today. I have one thing on my mind.
I want to beat a previous version of myself.
If I did 5 reps last time, I need to get 6.
This level of competitiveness forces me to push hard. It forces me to recruit more muscle fibres. This isn’t just messing around moving weight.
However, this doesn’t mean I will take everything to failure.
I’ve made a conscious decision to train at 1 RIR, I’ve learnt what that feels like.
I’m not going to cheat on my principles for a win, that wouldn’t count. It’s like trying to be the fastest man in the world and then you jump on a bike… there’s rules for competing.
This is a big part of the reason I’ve been sorer than usual recently.
It’s a big part of what lets me crush PRs week after week.
Next time you go into the gym don’t view it as just a task to get the results you want. Go at it with the intention of breaking your previous limits. Prove to yourself that you’re growing.

P.S. I’m working on making a ~5 hour YouTube video that covers everything I know about muscle growth just to have a huge reference point. Keep an eye out for that.
