Raw Milk is On Trial

and rightfully so.

Welcome to my Newsletter.

I am bought and paid for by raw milk šŸ’Ŗ

Yeah that’s a joke. Raw milk industry has no money. They broke…

I’M BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY BIG DAIRY.

Now that I got that out of the way I can talk about the ā€œbenefitsā€ of raw milk.

Oddly enough (marketing genius) if I were to hype up benefits instead of saying raw milk is trash, I’d get more views.

But nah.

So before I talk about the risks of raw milk (there’s an easy fix tho) let’s talk about the ā€œbenefitsā€

Benefits of Raw Milk

1. Did you know the protein in non-raw milk is denatured???

Yeah that sounds super scary.

It’s also completely true!!!

  • But…

  • The digestive system doesn’t care.

  • The second protein hits your stomach acid it’ll denature…

If your protein is strong enough šŸ’Ŗ to make it through your stomach acid it’ll get in the small intestine, and be again destroyed…

So no protein being denatured doesn’t matter.

2. Raw milk contains lactase so people with lactose intolerance can have it!

Wow that’s awesome.

I actually struggle with lactose so this is going to be really helpful for me šŸ™„

  • Yeah no.

  • Raw milk does not contain lactase.

  • If it did neither pasteurised or raw milk would have lactose…

Lactose + Lactase = no lactose.

Damn.

3. Raw Milk has a LOT of minerals, you can’t miss out on that.

I mean I guess…

It’s got some calcium, that’s kinda it.

  • Thing about calcium is

  • If you have lactose issues

  • You won’t absorb it

Even then pasteurised vs raw milk has no difference in mineral count, or bioavailability.

4. Raw Milk has a LOT MORE Vitamin D and the Sun Doesn’t Exist

Some little weasels (yes weasels) have been yapping about the ā€œbeta-lactoglobulinā€ in raw milk and how it helps absorb Vitamin D.

Here’s why they’re a weasel.

This has only ever been seen in a rat study.

Okay so a rat study. Not very useful here.

The second thing that makes this not very useful is that beta-lactoglobulin bla bla bla is another word for whey protein…

Here’s a little tidbit about mice too.

They have upregulated Vitamin D activity. Seems important.

Look you don’t need whey protein in order to absorb Vitamin D, you have enzymes for that.

Even if this was helpful, it denatures the second it hits the stomach 😳

5. Did You Know Raw Milk has Good Enzymes?

Let’s dig in a little about all these Enzyme things.

Enzymes are awesome!

  • 9th Grade Biology!

  • Enzyme Unlock Process!

  • I seem to remember them being fragile…

Oh.

pH denatures enzymes…

Oh.

This isn’t great.

I guess the enzymes are useless then.

6. Pasteurising Milk Sucks Because it Reduces Vitamins

You’re about to see the penultimate benefit.

That means the one before last.

Pasteurised milk pretty bad right.

When you heat it (hint: there’s a reason you heat it) you lose vitamins.

Well.

Would you be surprised to learn that you don’t actually see significant decreases in Vitamins.

The small decreases you might see are things you won’t drink milk to get.

Would you use milk for 100% of your protein? Probably not

This exact same thing happens with fruit/veg, but you’ll never hear people talking about them being useless cooked.

7. Raw Milk has a LOTTTT of Probiotics

I love probiotics!

Gut health!!

  • Yeah no.

  • If you want probiotics have cheese

  • All fermented foods absolutely destroy what raw milk can provide.

These are BUILT to be good for gut health, and in a safe way.

No Benefits?

Oh.

Not great.

Well even then maybe I just want to pick raw milk to be different Fletcher…

Why can’t I do that?

Cons of Raw Milk

1. Raw Milk Bad

Look, you heat raw milk to kill bacteria.

This bacteria is not good for you.

  • The bacteria can kill you

  • The bacteria can cohabitate with cows

  • The bacteria is only fixable through heating

Even tested raw milk gets recalled every other week.

When you run tests on raw milk you’re only getting a small sample size, this isn’t indicative of the entire batch.

There’s also a time difference between test and table.

That bacteria is multiplying the entire time after the test, even if it’s not dangerous at that point.

2. Raw Milk is NOT ā€œik a good farmerā€

A farmer has no way of knowing if a cow is okay.

It’s not just that cows won’t always show signs of disease with bacteria that can harm us.

  • It’s not a cleanliness question

  • Animals can transmit diseases to cows by biting them

  • You will sip on that crazy bacteria

No one cares how hard the farmer tries. They have no control over this.

Just think about whether or not this is something you want in your body.

It’s not worth the risks…

Just cook your milk.

Have pasteurised.

Send this to a friend who wants to roleplay as a baby cow…
