Weight Lifting Belts

most misused piece of gym equipment

Everyone knows how important the weight lifting belt is…

You NEED to wear it on all exercises.

If you’re not doing bicep curls with a weightlifting belt are you even taking the gym seriously?

Better yet I see people doing leg extensions with a weightlifting belt all the time.

You best be using your spine like crazy on that exercise.

Look I have no idea where this belt stuff came from.

It looks like people think there’s some instant boost that appears when you slap one on.

That’s nowhere near how it works…

A weightlifting belt helps you improve your brace by giving you something to brace against.

That’s all.

It helps increase intra-abdominal pressure, get a more stable core.

That’s all…

It requires you to actually know how to brace.

Problem is a lot of people THINK they know how to brace.

“Oh you just push out your gut as much as possible”

No…

That’s not it 😭

Here’s how to brace properly (and learn this before you start using a belt).

  1. Bring in your core all the way.

  2. Bring it out by ~50% IN ALL DIRECTIONS

  3. Maintain that constant tension

All adding the belt does is help you brace against that and lock in/maintain it a bit easier.

It’s like doing a bench press vs pushing someone standing up. One is just that bit easier.

When it comes to buying a belt they’re all pretty good.

If you want to get fancy grab a belt that has a metallic clench on it.

If you’re broke just grab a standard one.

It’ll take some time to break in and then you’re golden.

Have fun with it!
