Limited Potential vs Longer Journey

This is maddening.

Nothing annoys me more than this.

The difference between limited potential and slower journey is annoying.

It’s easy to spot but no one does. It’s the heart of any argument. It’s lame.

Have you ever heard someone say “not optimal just means it’ll take longer to get there”.

It’s a 50/50 coin flip here.

Could be true.

Might not be.

See there’s a difference between a slower journey, and limiting potential.

Let’s break it down with an example.

If I only trained triceps by doing presses, my triceps would still grow.

They’d grow much stronger than if I did other movements but they’d get big!

  • Every time I challenge my Triceps with the presses they’ll grow

  • It’ll take longer because there’s less active tissue

  • I can still reach the same max potential in active tissue with presses

It’s obvious why this would take longer, but there’s something else to consider.

The inactive tissue won’t be able to grow.

This tissue needs something else.

This scenario might look like it’s just a slower journey, but there’s limited potential.

  1. Add in a pushdown and the inactive tissue starts to grow

  2. Have a low frequency on this and the previously inactive tissue is still growing

  3. But it’s slower.

Frequency is the best example of what’s actually making something slower, but it still has the same endpoint.

Other things, actually change the endpoint.

Make sure you know the difference when programming something, or arguing with someone.

Hopefully I start to see a bit less of this than I’ve seen for years, a man can dream.

  • no one knows the difference here

  • limited potential will move the ceiling down

  • slower journey will just make it longer
