As the year came to a close I was left reflecting on how it went.

Truth be told, as always, it could have been better.

This is pretty human, everything could be improved, especially with hindsight.

What I want you to ask instead is something actually useful.

How did you feel about the year?

Journaling the answer to this question is probably a good idea.

When I asked myself it, along came a sea of excuses, let them flow onto the paper.

The best way you can improve your results is by grouping those excuses and finding ways to eliminate them.

When you’ve done that I’ve got a few more things for you to journal out.

If you could have taken 10% more responsibility in the following areas, what would that look like?

  • Your Training

  • Your Nutrition

  • Your Mental Health

  • Your Relationships

  • Your Empire/Work/Job/Purpose/[other cringe niche terminology placeholder]

After that, I’d recommend taking a look at which are instantly fixable, which would make the most difference, and bear that in mind for improving your life.

I’ll give you a couple more questions that would be good to ask.

  • What cycles were you a victim to in the past year?

    • Where did you resist these cycles, and what was the result?

  • What big opportunities came your way and why?

  • Where did you see the most friction?

  • What patterns keep repeating where I clearly missed the lesson?

  • Where did I pour my energy into the wrong things?

  • When did I feel fully present/alive/joy/fun/purpose?

    • Why? What links these?

  • What relationships nourished me massively?

    • and which drained me?

  • What moniker would you give the you from a year ago, and the you from today.

Remember, you are just a man, just a man.

If you answer these two questions and write them up on your wall, it’s a guaranteed instant grounding.

  • What “losses” later revealed themselves to be a win.

  • What “wins” later revealed themselves to have consequences.

Realising you are a slave to the Bohemian Mechanics of Laplace’s Demon results in the quickest exorcism known to man.

I hope after all this you’ve found some information about yourself that’s beneficial, and also found a few places where you can improve.

Focusing on the results you want without taking a look at the processes that go into them is a lost cause, you’ve done good here.
