Food Autopsies 101

Let’s cut open some food and find out what’s going on.

When I’m dead I want to undergo an autopsy.

This is a bit of a morbid way to start a newsletter, but you know me. I’m someone who strives to learn everything about myself. How much fat do I have, how much muscle?

Are all my organs healthy?

Most of these can be tracked fairly accurately using blood-work, scales, etc.

Nothing beats an autopsy.

This is when every organ is inspected, every gram of fat and muscle weighed, the ratio of fast and slow twitch muscle fibres is detectable.

In life these are the questions I want answered, only in death will they be revealed.

If you’re still reading along you might be wondering why I used food in the title, it’s not because I consider myself a snack 🙄

Food autopsies are a fun game which lets you accurately log complex meals.

Imagine you’re joining the family for a nice meal.

The recipe was eyeballed 😁

You could weigh the entire meal all, search in your app for a generic homemade version, and hope it’s close.

We don’t do that here.

We’re going to conduct a food autopsy.

  • Separate the carbs, veggies, and proteins

  • Weigh and log each of these three making sure to remove a little to account for the sauce (make sure you weigh as cooked)

  • Add the sauce to your app with your best guess on it’s weight

  • Reassemble on your plate

Now we have a yummy meal that’s had an autopsy and has been logged as accurately as possible.

I’ve performed many of these autopsies, I thoroughly enjoy them and there’s something quite therapeutic about them.

Go out and autopsy some food.

Also, I’m not sure if you’ve seen it yet but I posted a huge video on bulking not being necessary recently. If you’ve followed my recent emails on bulking and the post workout meal I’d love if you could leave some feedback saying how it helped you.

There’s a little bit of hate on the video (a good thing) but it’d help if there was more positive feedback so people are more willing to try it. Here’s the link https://youtu.be/OKEmiI5XGFs?si=5AOOENubPAHqjyYg

Your Hypertrophy Hero,

P.S. If you’re interested on my strength levels check out my MOST recent video. It’s a workout I recorded back in April 2024, since then I’ve been cutting but I’m MUCH stronger than back then. I don’t do workouts like this anymore, but it’s still nice to see an old training day.
