Do goals keep you consistent?

Yes, and no... It's all in the application.

Goals are great, here’s what makes you set one.

You get super motivated and hyped up. You start thinking about the person you can become in the future. You set a goal that might be bad or good.

If you’ve followed my goal setting lesson, the goal is good :)

Problem is, having a goal isn’t enough.

To achieve a goal you need to:

  • Have a good goal in the first place.

  • Have a proper action plan

  • Stick to that plan

Most of the problem lies in “stick to that plan”.

So, as long as you’ve got that goal, let’s break it open.

  1. You have a detailed description of what your goal is.

  2. You know where you’re moving towards in the next year.

  3. You know exactly the steps you need to take to get there.

So here’s how you leverage the goal to make sure you actually take those steps.

Find a spot in your room that you know you’ll look at again, again, and again.

We’ll be creating two things. The two Vs. Visual and Verbal mantras.

Verbal

You already have your verbal mantras.

This is that long description of what your goal is.

You’ll print this out and recite it every single day for 2 months. When those two months are over recite it every time you need to. For best practice keep doing it forever.

When you have this detailed goal description make it in the present

  • I am

  • I have

  • I do

This starts to rewire the brain. The brain doesn’t acknowledge that we don’t have these things, and starts to make it a reality.

Don’t be weird.

This doesn’t make the results magically appear.

It only ensures you do the actions to get there. There’s no magic in this world.

Verbally you might want to have another shorter phrase you use.

People have actually been using these right under your nose for decades.

  • “We go gym”

  • “Yeah buddy, light weight”

  • “Who’s gonna carry the boats?”

All of these mantras are used to lock in, destroy a set, and reach goals.

Visual

The visual side is something new.

There are two sides to this. You have inspiration, and motivation.

All you need for a visual mantra is images.

For inspiration you want to focus on what inspires you. These are physiques you want, they’re what you see your end goal being.

You might take a guy that looks like you, someone who has the shoulders, or chest you want.

The other side is motivation.

These aren’t exactly physiques you want, but they can be.

These are people.

You might have people you look up to in this space

  • Chris Bumstead inspires you to see your potential

  • Jeff Nippard inspires you to make friends in the gym

  • Jacks Fitness inspires you to bulk

Images of all of these get thrown into one big visual stimuli, and thrown on your wall.

Tell me you’d be able to skip the gym having this, I dare you.

Even when you’re not paying attention to what you’ve just created, it’ll be in your subconscious.

Bonus points if you leave some preworkout/protein powder in your room 🙄

Your Hypertrophy Hero,
Fletcher

P.S. None of this works as well as it could if you don’t have proper goals. If you haven’t already follow my gym goal guide here.
